Srirangapatana Fort is a splendid architectural marvel which stands tall cheating time. It was believed that Tipu Sultan used this fort to prepare rockets and missiles against the British. For this reason the fort has gained great importance in history of Indian war of independence. The historical importance of this fort doesn’t end there. It was here Tipu Sultan was finally defeated by the British, betrayed by his own people. The legendary sword of Tipu was seized from him and he was brutally killed. Today it is a good tourist destination. There is a mosques and a temple, the Sri Rangaswami temple is a huge with an impressive gopuram or dome and a fort like wall. The fort is located 15 kms from Mysore in Karnataka.

Mysore and Bangalore airport are the nearest one. Mysore railway station is the nesrest one to Srirangapatana Fort. There are several hotels and resorts in Mysore for tourists to stay and enjoy their sightseeing.

Brigade Road

Brigade road is one of the busiest commercial centers in Bangalore- the state’s capital city. It is a very posh area dotted with several shops in both sides of the road. It is also a connecting road between the MG Road and Residency Road. It has several shopping centers, malls and retail outlets of most of the well known international brands. It has shops like KFC, Planet M. Music world, Mc Donald’s, Archies, showrooms and retail outlets of Louis Phillipe, Blackberry, Levis etc. there are several places to hangout in Brigade road. There is a theater called Rex in Brigade road, which always runs the best and latest of Bollywood and Hollywood movies. There are several pubs and night clubs in Brigade road, hence it is called the most happening commercial area in Bangalore. The famous Cauvery handicraft shop is also located at the end of Brigade road. This is one spot in Bangalore where one can find people of all nationality walking and hanging out, shopping and spending their weekend. It is also the New Year celebration hub in the city for many years.

The Devanahali airport is around 50 kms from Brigade road, there are cabs and buses that connect the airports. The Majestic railway station is less than 20 kms from here there are several boutique hotels in and around Brigade road for tourists to stay.

Bangalore- once a pensioner’s paradise.

One of the most irrelevant titles of Bangalore, which is now just a dream for its every elderly citizen, would be pensioner’s paradise. The city which was once famous for its charm, peaceful living conditions and greenery is just lost in the memories of the people who have settled here since 20 – 30 years. The tremendous growth of the city, in an astonishing pace bringing it to the list of metros in India was quite unexpected for the old settlers of Bangalore who hoped for a calm and perfect living condition. Though the growth of the city envied by most other cities of India, is cherished by most Bangaloreans; there are some people amongst us or may be part of us who are feeling sorry to have lost the charm of the old city.

The greenery of the city which attracted the people to settle here is now to be seen only in old kannada movies. The only untouched greener part of Bangalore is Cubbon Park and Lalbagh which is now facing some problems because of the metro projects coming up in the city.

The recent occupants are pretty happy with growth of the city, but some minds are still cherishing the old views of their beloved city.

Bangalore is blessed with an international airport and the city is well connected through roads and rails from almost all major cities of the country. Some of the best hotels thrive in Bangalore catering the needs of tourists.

Vidhana Soudha- Bangalore

Vidhana Soudha in Bangalore is a magnificent structure that is built entirely from granite. It is the largest Secretariat in India. Kengal Hanumanthaiah, the then Chief Minister was the person who motivated to build Vidhana Soudha. It is indeed an architectural wonder which is built in Dravidian style. It also has floral motifs on stone carvings. The construction was started in 1952 and was completed in four years. More than 5000 laborers were employed. The wood work inside Vidhana Soudha is remarkable. It has a 20 m dome, which is mounted by the four-headed lion of Ashoka. Vidhana Soudha houses the Karnataka State Legislative Assembly and a part of the Secretariat.Indo-Sarcenic pillars, Rajasthani Jharokas and other ornamental things add to the sparkle of the building.

Bangalore has an international airport and the nearest railway station is Bangalore City railway station. Bangalore is also well connected by roads from all major parts of India. there are wide range of accomodation facilities in bangalore for tourists.

Nandi Hills: A road trip to remember

Tired of mundane work, busy traffic, normal dust and heat? Call all your friends; arrange bikes, take a road trip to Nandi Hills. Tourists can have a gala time racing on National highway, taking pit stops in front of dhabas (motels), taking pictures etc. The moment you start driving up the zigzag roads towards the top of the hill, you would feel the chill down the spine. Higher up the altitude the wind is cold and misty.

Tipu Sultan’s fort is something never to be missed. It is said that he used to punish his prisoners by throwing them down from this 600 ft cliff on top of Nandi Hills. History good or bad, today Nandi Hills is a stress buster to many people from Bangalore which is just 60 km far from here. There is also a temple on top of the hills. The adventure enthusiasts can make use of the paragliding at the Nandi Hills.

Nandi hills are just less than 12km away from the new International airport in Devanahalli (Bangalore) and Chikkaballapur Railway Station is 9km away from the Hills. There are a couple of home stays and resorts near the destination.

Jog falls

Jog falls is the tallest waterfalls in India. The sight of water plunging down from 829 feet is spectacular. The water that flows from Western Ghats divides itself into four sections called Raja, Rani, Roarer and Rocket. The force of water coming down to splash onto the rocks below creates white foam. The falls just looks like a gush of milk. The falls is set against the backdrop of dense forest and offers a panoramic view of the thick greenery of Evergreen forests. During monsoon the force of water is at its peak and the sight of rainbows now and then is surely a visual treat. The falls appear like a celestial wonder which has come down to earth. August – December is considered to be the best season to visit the falls. Lingamakki Dam and a hydro-electric power station are the nearest attractions.

The nearest airport is Mangalore International Airport and the nearest railway station is Thalaguppa, Shimoga district. Jog falls is well connected by roads from Bangalore, Shimoga, Sagar and other parts of Karnataka. There are several resorts and home stays in Shimoga.

Horanadu Annapoorneshwari Temple

Horanadu is located in the beautiful surroundings of Western Ghats of Karnataka and located in the midst of thick forests and valleys.

The ancient temple of Goddess Annapoorneshwari here has been restored and renamed as the Adi-Shaktyatmaka Shree Annapoorneshwari. The single image in the temple depicts the Goddess Annapoorneshwari standing on a peeta with Shanku, Chakra, Sri Chakra and Devi Gayathri in her four hands.

The nature’s bounty and green spread reflects on the Goddess’s resplendent glory. The main idol made of gold and the serenity in the face can bring peace and calm to ones mind.

Overview of Chitradurga

Chitradurga is completely covered with hill stations, lots of forts and villages. Chitradurga features bold rock hills and picturesque valleys, huge towering boulders in unimaginable shapes. It is known as the “stone fortress”.

Chitradurga owes its name to “Chitrakaladurga”, or “Picturesque Castle”. Archaeological remains found in the area, trace its history to the 3rd Millennium BC. A rock edict of Emperor Ashoka, near Brahmagiri reveals that Chitradurga was part of the Mauryan Empire during the rule of royal dynasties like the Rashtrakutas, Chalukyas and Hoysalas.

The Kallina Fort is a major attraction here and tourists travel to Chitradurga from all over India.

Gol Gumbaz, bijapur: an Historical destination

Mohammed Adil Shah tomb is the second largest tomb in the world. Located in the north-eastern part of Karnataka, Bijapur used to be the home of the Bahamani Sultans. Decorated with delicate stone filigree and other sculptural work, this building is admired for its loveliness rather than imposing grandeur.

It also has a whispering gallery where a message carries through 38 meters repeating 11 times.

The dome contains tombs of Muhammad Adil Shah, his two wives, his mistress, his daughter and grandson. The structure in front of the tomb has been converted in to a museum. Other prominent structures in the Gol Gumbad complex are a mosque, a Naqqar Khana, a gateway and a dharmashala.

Kodagu is also called as Coorg. It is the most beautiful hill station of Karnataka. Madikeri is the district headquarters and it is full of dense forests, plantations, orange groves and paddy fields. The Coorg region produces coffee, tea, cardamom, pepper, and timber. A drive through one of the plantations is bound to be an enchanting experience.
The climate of Kodagu is pleasantly cold throughout the year, which makes it one of the most visited tourist destinations of Karnataka.
